Abstract

Behavioral intention to use Islamic banking products among vocational high school students remains an important issue in supporting the development of Islamic financial inclusion in Indonesia. Although Islamic financial literacy has been widely promoted, empirical evidence regarding its influence on students' behavioral intention remains inconsistent. In addition, the role of the social environment in shaping students' intentions has received limited attention, particularly in vocational education. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effects of Islamic Financial Literacy and Social Environment on students' Behavioral Intention to use Islamic banking products.
This study employed a quantitative research approach using a saturated sampling technique involving all 51 students of the Islamic Banking Department at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Surabaya. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression.
The findings reveal that Islamic Financial Literacy has a positive but statistically insignificant effect on Behavioral Intention (β = 0.155, p = 0.224), indicating that knowledge alone is insufficient to encourage students' intention to use Islamic banking products. In contrast, Social Environment has a positive and statistically significant effect on Behavioral Intention (β = 0.777, p < 0.001), suggesting that support from family, peers, teachers, and the surrounding environment plays a crucial role in shaping students' intentions. Simultaneously, both independent variables significantly influence Behavioral Intention, with the regression model explaining 67.4% of the variance (R² = 0.674).
These findings imply that strengthening students' behavioral intention requires not only improving Islamic financial literacy but also fostering supportive social environments through collaboration among educational institutions, families, and Islamic banking stakeholders.
